Elżbieta Patkowska is an Professor of Phytopathology at the University of Life Sciences in Lublin, Poland. She studied Biology at the Maria Curie-Skłodowska University in Lublin, Poland and then got Ph.D. (2000) and Habilitated Doctor degrees (2012) at the University of Life Sciences in Lublin in the subject of biodiversity of microorganisms colonizing soybean [Glycine max (L.) Merrill] and susceptibility of different varieties of plants to infection by fungi with special regard to Phomopsis sojae Lehman. She is interested in the interactions between plants and pathogenic/non-pathogenic microorganisms and the possibility of applying biological methods in plant protection. At present she is concerned with the occurrence, symptomatology and etiology of vegetable plants caused by fungi, as well as with beneficial microorganisms and biostimulants as the factors promoting plant growth and ensuring their resistance to biotic stress.

Alexander Ivanovich was born on January 10, 1940, in Kashin, Kalinin (Tver) Region. In 1962, he graduated from the Faculty of Medicine at the 2nd Moscow State Medical Institute named after N.I. Pirogov (now the Russian National Research Medical University - RNRMU named after N.I. Pirogov). After completing his postgraduate studies at the Department of Biochemistry in 1965, he defended his candidate's dissertation on the topic of "The Effect of Carbon Tetrachloride on the Enzyme Systems of the Liver and Blood of Rats." From 1965 to 1973, he was an assistant, senior lecturer, and senior researcher in the Department of Biochemistry. In 1973, he defended his doctoral dissertation on the topic of "Electron Transfer and Associated Reactions in the Endoplasmic Reticulum of the Liver"; in 1976, he was awarded the academic title of professor.

From 1973 to 1979, he headed the Laboratory of Enzymology and Bioenergetics, and from 1979 to 2015, he headed the Department of Biochemistry of the Faculty of Biomedical Science of the 2nd Moscow State Medical Institute/N.I. Pirogov Russian National Research Medical University. From 1989 to 2015, he was Director of the Research Institute of Biological and Medical Chemistry of the USSR Academy of Medical Sciences (now the V.N. Orekhovich Research Institute of Biomedical Chemistry, IBMC), and since 2015, he has been the Scientific Director of IBMC.

Corresponding Member of the Russian Academy of Medical Sciences (since 1986), Academician of the Russian Academy of Medical Sciences (since 1991), Vice President of the Russian Academy of Medical Sciences (2011-2013), Academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences (since 2013, Department of Medical Sciences).

Since 1995, A.I. Archakov has been the editor-in-chief of the scientific journal"Biomedical Chemistry", member of the editorial boards and boards of the journals "Bulletin of the Russian Academy of Medical Sciences", "Nutrition Issues", "Mathematical Biology and Bioinformatics", "Molecular Medicine", "Pathogenesis" and several others.

Member of the Presidium of the Russian Academy of Sciences (until 2022), Deputy Chairman of the RAS Expert Commission for the M.V. Lomonosov Great Gold Medal, Deputy Academician-Secretary of the Department of Medical Sciences of the Russian Academy of Sciences (until 2022), member of the Bureau of the Section of Medical and Biological Sciences. Honorary Professor of the N.N. Burdenko VSMU, member of the New York Academy of Sciences, member of the Biochemical Society of Great Britain, member of the European Academy of Sciences. At various times, A.I. Archakov was a member of the council of the Russian Foundation for Basic Research (RFBR), the Presidential Council of the Russian Federation for the Support of Young Scientists and Leading Scientific Schools, the Federation Council Committee on Education and Science of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation, a number of expert councils on medical and biological problems under the Ministry of Science and Technology of the Russian Federation, and was chairman of the Interdepartmental Scientific Council on Medical Biochemistry.

A.I. Archakov was awarded the Order "For Merit to the Fatherland" IV, III and II classes and the Order of Pirogov. Laureate of the USSR State Prize (1983), laureate of the RSFSR State Prize (1989), two-time laureate of the Russian Federation State Prize (1998, 2022), laureate of the Russian Federation Government Prize in Science and Technology (2003). Laureate of the A.N. Bach Prize of the Presidium of the USSR Academy of Sciences for the series of works "Microsomal Oxidation" (1982), a diploma of the V.S. Gulevich Prize of the Presidium of the Russian Academy of Medical Sciences in Biological and Medicinal Chemistry, for the series of works "The Concept of the Inverse Avogadro Number in Proteomic Studies" (2010). He was awarded the Pirogov Grand Gold Medal of the Russian Academy of Sciences and the title of "Scientist of the Year" by the decision of the Independent Public Council of the competition "100 Best Organizations of Russia. Science. Innovations". Scientific Developments" (2010). In 2015, he was awarded a diploma from the European Academy of Natural Sciences and the Albert Schweitzer Medal.

A.I. Archakov is the scientific supervisor of more than 60 candidate dissertations, scientific consultant for 15 doctoral dissertations; the author of more than 700 scientific articles, 6 monographs, 62 patents and copyright certificates.

Dr. Hamond is an Assistant Research Professor in the Wunder laboratory. She is also a Collaborating Researcher in the Bacterial Zoonoses Laboratory, Oswaldo Cruz Institute, Fiocruz, Brazil. During the past seventeen years, her studies and professional experience have focused on animal leptospirosis, working on its clinical aspects, and with high dedication to performing research in the laboratory and she established several key diagnostic assays in her career. While working on her PhD, she had the opportunity to perform an internship at the Biology of Spirochetes Unit at the Institute Pasteur (Paris, France), and work as a postdoctoral researcher at Federal Fluminense University (Brazil), Yale University (United States), National Institute of Agricultural Research and Institute Pasteur (Uruguay), and the National Veterinary Services Laboratories (NVSL), USDA (United States). Dr. Hamond’s research projects are aimed at identifying reservoirs and determine the etiology of Leptospira by culture and molecular approaches. Her work improves the scientific understanding about the etiology and epidemiology of leptospirosis, while providing local Leptospira isolates to increase the efficacy of serodiagnosis, vaccine formulation, and pathogenesis studies of leptospirosis. Dr. Hamond’s has published more than 60 peer-reviewed research articles related to microbiology and molecular biology of leptospirosis. She received the 2019 Early Career Research award from the International Leptospirosis Society and in 2022 was named Honorary Diplomate of the American Veterinary One Health Society (AVOHS), and in 2024 elected Executive Member of International Society of Leptospirosis (ILS).
